HKUST VisLab has immediate openings for one postdoc and one lab manager


Job Title: Research Project Manager

Job Details

A project manager position is available in UST VisLab led by Prof. Huamin Qu in the Computer Science & Engineering Department of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This full-time project manager will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of a two-year research project that aims at building an open learning design, data analytics and visualization framework for E-Learning. The duties of the project manager include budget planning, project paperwork, project progress checking and routing meeting management, etc. The project manager work with the principal investigator, other postdocs and PhD students of this project in HKUST VisLab as well as our collaborators from MIT and HKU. The Project Manager will also have opportunities to collaborate on scientific publications and attend academic conferences.

The candidates should own a master degree or above in computer science or other relevant fields.

Strong candidates will also possess the following attributes:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Be familiar with frontend coding skills, especially in Javascript, Python, HTML5, CSS
  • Some project management experience would be preferred
  • Candidates with a background in data visualization, HCI, online education, data mining or data analysis would be preferred

The position is available for 2 years. The salary can be more than HK$30K per month based on the experience and expertise and other benefits like MPF and medical insurance will also be provided.

Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Job Details

A postdoctoral position is available in UST VisLab led by Prof. Huamin Qu in the Computer Science & Engineering Department of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Huamin Qu is looking for highly motivated postdoc to work on a project that aims at building an open learning design, data analytics and visualization framework for E-Learning. This project is funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund of Hong Kong and will last for 2 years. The duties of the project postdoc will focus on the visual analysis of learning log data, prediction of student learning behaviors and performance, development of the visual analysis platforms and routine management of the project progress. The project postdoc will closely work with other postdocs, PhD students, RAs in HKUST VisLab as well as our collaborators from MIT and HKU.

Expertise in some or all of the following areas is desired: data visualization, human-computer interaction, data mining/machine learning, online education and web-based user interface design. All candidates must have received a PhD in a relevant field.

Strong candidates will also possess the following attributes:
  • A strong publication record from their PhD (papers published, in press, or submitted)
  • Excellent coding skills, especially in Javascript, Python, HTML5, CSS. Being familiar with other front-end development skills is also preferred
  • Creativity, independence, and the desire to learn new things
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
